Managing conflict is one of the key functional areas of an astute manager and an aspiring leader. If managed correctly conflict can actually spur innovation and creativity, enhance work relations, and provide an atmosphere of open and productive communication.

The goal in any management endeavor should never be to have zero conflict; that's impossible. The goal should be to minimize conflict, and to manage it productively when it occurs.

Conflict is a natural part of living. It is no different in our business life than in our personal life. The key is not to strive for zero conflict, that is just unrealistic. The goal should be to manage conflict!

Biagio Sciacca known to his friends as Bill, was a lifelong resident of Pittston, PA. He is the author of several books relating to goal setting, and his third book, High Octane Leadership, is publishing soon. Now residing in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, he divides his time between his international clients, writing his next book and wandering aimlessly on the beach.
